this is by far one of the best interviews I've seen, especially when it's the Arctics. It's cracking when an interviewer isn't trying too hard, has done some genuine research, is easy to chat to and doesn't bother with the cliche questions or ask the same stuff we've heard a million times about the strokes lyric.
I totally agree with you what an engaging interview. To me the reason why I watch them is because I wanna see the human aspect of these musicians. Yes they’re sonically brilliant and charismatic on stage but to see them away from the noise talking about their emotions and life beyond the limelight adds a layer of soulfulness.
The questions were well thought out and you can tell the artists really appreciate em as appose to the usual fare where infact the interviewer doesn’t really care how they respond.
Alex still did his signature moves of combing his hair back with his fingers even with no hair lol They are such sweethearts, I wish Matt would speak more
I think they enjoyed the questions and the fact that the interviewer did some research. If i look at some other interviews, I feel that second hand embarrassment...
Could be. If they combine the level of production and less-used chord progressions of TBHC and combine it with more guitars, a bit more variety/catchiness, energy and more space for helders (from the albums before) they could very well give us something even better than the albums we already had.
The greatest rock bands always seem to peak in their 20's. Past that you deal with the consequences of success, the creative differences, the fatigue and burnout, the family needs, etc., and it takes a huge toll on the spirit that made them successful to begin with.
You're right that most peak in their 20's, But on the other hand, bands used to release albums more often, which could've led to the burnout....these days albums are often released with 2 year pauses at least. QOSTA released ...Like Clockwork way after their 20's..Radiohead released In Rainbows and Kid A, when their were in their 30's. Even if you don't consider them the best, they are still pretty damn good albums.

Alex is so likeable and regular when he’s not off his head during an interview, or being standoffish. I know he’s naturally guarded but this is refreshing.

"when im eight-eh?!?" this is one of my favourite monkeys interviews. The interviewer did an amazing job with research and engaging questions for both of them, and you can really tell it payed off with how comfortable alex is in particular.
You can really tell when he is finding the interview interesting and himself comfortable (Alex). To me it seems like in other “average” interviews he feels little bit exhausted of answering to the same type of questions and that is when he starts to go really off the track and acting like he is off his face or something. Congrats on a top class interview.
Love that little insight into the Submarine writing process and how Alex thought the songs he'd already written didn't fit the Suck it and See bill but were just right for Submarine; so just sort of fell into place. Great interview.
This is hands down the best interview I've ever seen with the monkeys. From the very first second, it oozes comfort, respect and friendliness and it never stopped. Honestly felt more like friends talking than an interview. Respect to the interviewer for doing SUCH an outstanding job.
I love this interview. Alex seems comfortable and coherent and genuinely interested in the conversation, instead of just obligated to give answers to dumb questions like in other interviews. Matt was a little quiet but seemed happy. The interviewer had done his research and asked questions that the boys would enjoy answering rather than questions the media wants answers to. Loved it

I think the key (and a difficult one) at that to interviewing Alex and The Monkeys is to always strike the right balance between not taking them too seriously but also seriously attempting to get them at the same time. They definitely have the tongue in cheek british banter conversational type, but it's only when you can joke around with them and take a bit of a slack that they realise you get their humour, and only then will they open up more about what they really wanna talk about. They touched upon it explicitly in the beginning, the Monkeys were basically childhood friends who grew up in the same street and have known each other most of their lives. You can never wait to be included in the joke. You have to understand that you can never be part of the group, but able to take the mickey out of it anyway. You just need to be the fifth beatle.
Interesting how when the interviewer starts talking about fame and dealing with it, Alex takes off his sunglasses. I'm probably reading too much into it, but he makes himself less of a celeb at that point...or he just takes his sunglasses off!
